Why Jonah…the story behind it

Why you so Jonah eh? Every person in medical field in Malaysia must have heard this word, Jonah. Doctors commonly are labelled being Jonah or some anti-Jonah (fondly mentioned as anti-J). Doctors & nurses would understand what I am saying J

But lots of time, when I ask my colleagues do you know what/who is Jonah….the answer would be negative. So I shall try to write on this briefly.

HOW JONAH IS DEFINED IN THE DICTIONARY

According to collinsdictionary.com :

1(a)  a Hebrew prophet: thrown overboard in a storm sent because he had disobeyed God, he was swallowed by a big fish, but three days later was cast up on the shore unharmed

(b)  the book telling Jonah's story

2.  any person said to bring bad luck by being

WHO IS JONAH?

Jonah @ Yunus (alaihis-salam) is a revered prophet mentioned in Old Testament & the Qurán.

Yes, he is a prophet believed by Muslims as well as Jewish & Christians. I’m not going to talk about the differences in how Muslims / Jewish / Christians beliefs regarding his prophethood.

Prophet Yunus is one of the 25 Rasul known to Muslims. He is the 21^st in the list. He was sent to a place named Ninawa (somewhere in Iraq) to get them to worship Allah as the only god. After years of preaching (da’wah), Yunus (as) was so disappointed as only a handful of Ninawa people accepted his teachings & prayed to Allah. Majority belittled him & challenged him to call upon his god to send the destructions that he has always been saying.

Yunus (as) became disillusioned & left his people before Allah’s order came. His journey took him to shore and boarded a loaded ship. In meantime, signs of destruction has arrived at Ninawa & people of Ninawa started to repent were looking for Yunus to guide them back to the right path. Nevertheless, their search were in vain as Yunus (as) has already boarded the ship.

Meanwhile, the ship Yunus (as) was in started to encounter rough sea. The captain of the ship made a decision to remove someone in order to reduce load in the ship. They unanimously agreed to draw lots. Thrice Yunus’name was drawn & he believed that this is Allah’s will & jumped off the ship.

On Allah’s order, a big fish (whale) swallowed Yunus and he stayed in its stomach & never stopped repenting to Allah as he felt that he made a sin by leaving his people without Allah’consent. The doá that Yunus recited was well captured in the Qurán (surah Al-Anbiya’ : verse 87).

So eventually his act of repentance was accepted by Allah & Yunus (as) was thrown out of the whale’s stomach. He went back to his people and guided the right path.

*Story of Jonah is depicted in bible (old testament) as well – book of Jonah.

SO WHY JONAH BEING IMPLICATED AS SOMEONE WHO BRINGS BAD LUCK/JINXED?

Yunus (as) @ Jonah was removed from the ship not because he brought bad luck, but it was merely meant to reduce load in the ship as the sea was getting rough and above all it was God’s will. So why is Jonah being implicated as someone with bad luck? Jonah left his people before Allah’s command came & this incident served to be a reminder to Jonah & all of us to be patient and seek guidance from Allah in the period of hardships.

OK, people might say..hey this is just for fun! True we can take it that way, but as a practicing Muslim or Jewish/Christian alike, we should try to avoid using terms that belittles our prophets. It sounds cool to be updated about vocabs & idioms in English but will be good to know why certain terms/words are used and whether are they appropriate or less appropriate.

We can probably use other words like, Im ‘jinxed’, that is why my oncalls are always busy & I’m ‘blessed’ that is why my oncalls are always cool.

So, think about it peeps. Just my two-cents.. Adios!

PRU13 - Malaysia heading towards dawn or dusk?

I am no hardcore political party supporter or an avid follower of our politics but I am a strong supporter of Malaysia having two-party politics (not sole party domination as we have witnessed all this while). Thus I stayed up alone awaiting PRU results announcement and as soon as it was announced...BN won federal government, I became disappointed and went to sleep.
At one glance, it appeared as PR's show in 2008 was far better than 2013; winning 5 states & declined BN 2/3rd majority in Parliament.This time, there is only 3 states to show & additional 7 parliament seats. But if we detail the inroads PR has made, it is indeed an election with better success for PR & Malaysians particularly.
Take a look at Selangor, where PR successfully returned to power with greater mandate. 44 out of 56 seats were delivered to PR (additional 8 seats). 10 new seats - Sabak, Kuala Kubu Baru, Taman Templer, Dusun Tua, Seri Serdang, Paya Jaras, Sementa, Morib, Tanjung Sepat, and Sungai Pelek) They also lost previously won Kota Damansara due to failure to reach an agreement between PKR & PAS) & Semenyih. Most of these seats are Malay-majority constituencies & semi-urban. While DAP had an excellent election, PAS relatively had a quiet run except in Selangor, where they won 15 seats (compared to 8 in last PRU).
What does this shows? Najib's claim of Chinese tsunami is a mere racist statement by the so-called 1Malaysia champion. Malaysians of Chinese descend rejected BN. They indeed voted for PR. Another aspect is support towards PR & PAS among urban & semi-urban Malay voters are indeed great. But then why rural & semi-rural Malays somehow rejected PAS (esp in Kedah)?
Is Racial sentiment played by BN contributed to this?....A VOTE FOR PAS is A VOTE FOR DAP... DAP WILL END MALAY SUPREMACY, SPECIAL RIGHTS etc. (WE were able to see this wordings on newspaper all along that campaign period. Who is racist bro..PR ka BN?
There are areas of Chinese majority, where non-Chinese candidates of PR prevailed over Chinese candidates of BN (i.e. Raub, Mentakab, Pandan).

Now that PRU is over, can we get back to work, propel the nation forward & ensure wealth is fairly distributed? 
To PR leaders & supporters : Yes..they won with some flaws & cheats...Fine if you want to expose them. Do it by legal means; though we might not get the justice. Be a good cop for rakyat by exposing BN's wrongdoings & create more awareness among Malaysians that they deserve more than BRIM, KRIM etc. Prove to rakyat, you can be a better government. Most importantly, never become big-headed once you are in power!
To BN leaders & supporters : Stop inciting racial tensions...face the fact than you are losing faith among majority of rakyat. Stop the irritating money politics! If you repent & do a lot more things (as u should have done) to rakyat, you might regain rakyat's faith.
To some Malay NGOs : stop being a bull dog by boycotting Chinese products. Islam never taught us to do this. Remember, even Nabi Muhammad did business deals with the Jews & only went against them when these Jews betrayed & threatened Muslims. Even that is after Nabi has preached to them about Islam. Have we preached to our Chinese not-yet muslim friends about Islam? Do you have evidences that they are against Islam? The answer is no to both i guess :)

Let us reconcile & contribute towards development of the country for all. Uphold Islam in all aspects & no one will be sidelined..as Islam came as a guidance to mankind of all races! Take heed of Nabi Muhammad's example of creating a nation called Madina & the rules in Madina Shield (Piagam Madinah); where in rights of every citizen (Muslims, Jews, Christians & Pagans) were taken into consideration & upheld with no compromise & unjust.

My JB experience

I stepped foot on JB soil first time ever in 28 yrs of life. The euphoric feel of reaching a place I've never been bfore was there, but manage to keep it at bay. The tiring journey from Sandakan took us almost 12 hrs to reach Senai Airport (including the freaking 6hrs transit period in KK)
Nevertheless there were we (Pojie, Alex, Sam & I) at BlueWave Hotel (took us another hour to reach here...) cost us RM178/night...but worth it...spacious & magnificent view of sunrise at singapore from our room!


22-25 April 2010 - The congress days
Though daytime was packed with talks & food in between talks, we managed to see JB at night (well at least a one eighth of it perhaps.ahaks)And I created my own record of time spent in shopping mall...an unbelievable time for me! And some shopping spree as well...even ladies could have been surprised with our "achievement"hak3.

The Venue: The Zon Regency Hotel; adhered to hosts of "majestic mansions" of night clubs, pubs, discotheque. This vicinity is basically duty free zone & of course liquors & cigarettes are the topmost items on the list. Sort of heaven for hedonisme party-goers! I was further mesmerised to witness such "great developments" in my beloved nation...not that I've never seen bfore; but just that these mansions were just too WOW! (There is a school just 500m away, a surau 200m away & a church 700m away!) Where is our respect to these respected noble places? Sad to say...but "the mansions" have been given the icon status for JB. Name The Zon...and what strikes to your mind are these "mansions".
Generally the main course of these places is LIQUOR! What liquor-mother of all sins has to offer?
1. Waste of money
2. Addictions
3. Loss of conscience
3. Health hazards (when addiction kicks in)
It just took to my nerve if to imagine how many of our youths will be in these "mansions" every night with liquour indulgence and hedonisme partying as their interpretation of enjoyment :(

What took place inside The Zon Hotel was "eye-catching" as well. On 23 April, we had our Congress Dinner at the Ballroom (Level 6) But I depict what we saw at foyer of Level 4 in picture form - such an inappropriate view in a open space. (I don't bother if they had behind the doors) HOW MUCH OF FREEDOM ARE WE TRYING TO ATTAIN? Don't we have the conscience that this is NOT OUR CULTURE. If ever they want to enjoy such a thing, get within 4 walls & "enjoy the show"...

The trip served to be an "escape" for me, away from calls, OT & hopefully can appear rejuvenated (i repeat..hopefully.hehe). But nevertheless, had other experiences too.
Having to see sights of indecency booming is a lot to bear...and "scarry" to think about it. The authorities really have to control this blossom...though it already appears to be quite late. Having an outlet of night spot might be acceptable...but having "mansions" are ridiculuos & disastrous! And we do have our roles...not to forget that.

Muhasabah II

Storm which appeared late last week has calmed...Thank God...so happy ^-^.

While reading harakah just now I came across an article by Li Fook Gao entitled " Orang bukan Islam 'membaca' penganut Islam " Could not agree more with what he said...Islam will be judged by the way its followers behave & live.

Telah termaktub dari zaman Rasulullah SAW; akhlaq baginda adalah "penarik" terbesar ke arah penyebaran Islam dengan meluas. Bukan khutbah, ceramah, tazkirah...tetapi akhlaq baginda dan sahabat2lah yang membawa orang tertarik dengan Islam. Siapa dapat menyangkal kemuliaan peribadi baginda, sanggup mendaki sebuah bukit untuk menyuap makanan kepada seorang tua (yang buta penglihatan), yang saban hari menyumpah baginda (kerana baginda menyebarkn Islam...walhal org tua ini tak tahu yang datang melawatnya itu adalah orang yang dicacinya depan2 setiap hari). Baginda sanggup menziarah & menjaga seorang wanita Yahudi yang sewaktu sihatnya senantisa membuang sampah/najis etc ke arah baginda.
Islam tersebar ke serata dunia tanpa sedikit pun kekerasan/keganasan! Umat Islam berperang hanya sebagai pertahanan diri & sangat patuh pada etika peperangan - Wanita, kanak2, org tua, tanaman, tempat Ibadah (semua agama) - DILARANG SAMA SEKALI UNTUK DIUSIK! Malah diberi perlindungan sepenuhnya.

Tetapi kita lihat keadaan & perilaku umat Islam sekarang.

Berapa ramai daripada kita yang cuba mencontohi Nabi & sahabat baginda dalam mempamerkan peribadi yang baik.
Berapa ramai daripada kita masih berpransangka buruk terhadap saudara se-Islam & masih prejudis terhadap rakan2 berlainan agama.
Berapa ramai daripada kita yang sedar bahawa setiap daripada kita adalah dae'i & wajib untuk kita berda'wah. Berapa ramai daripada kita sedar bahawa da'wah terbaik adalah daripada perilaku & peribadi kita sendiri.

The way we communicate, the way we interact, our EQ, our emphathy, the life we lead...all these are being observed by our non-Muslim brothers & sisters. Really if we portray the real Islamic values, it is a great da'wah effort indeed. And God willing, more people might get interested with Islam (of course hidayah is of Allah's discreetion-but effort & do'a is within our reach). we may not possess the strength to approach (our fellow Muslims & non-Muslim bro & sis) to preach about Islam. However, definitely we have the opportunity to be a better human, better Muslim by portraying what Islam had taught us & this will sure to be of a great da'wah effort.

Moga semua daripada kita mendapat hidayah dari Allah serta kekuatan untuk mengamalkan Islam sebaiknya & marilah kita istiqamah dalam berdo'a kerana itulah senjata terbaik orang mu'min. WALLAHU 'ALAM.

Seksi...terseksa & menyeksa

WHAT SEXY MEANS?
1. provoking or intended to provoke sexual interest (i.e. by a sexy dress)-concerned predominantly or excessively with sex
2. radiating sexuality by looking sexual interesting, arousing
3. interesting, exciting, or trendy (concerning non-living subjects-i.e.cars, bikes)

MY GOOD FRIEND & I
I had brief fun debate recently, with a good friend of mine regarding this matter..BEING SEXY. She feels that being sexy can contribute to boost one's self esteem, confidence etc. I was amused with this...how are they related? I said it had no connection at all. This cute friend of mine continued that by putting on high heels, dressing up sexily to certain extent can put a person more presentable and booming in confidence. Hmm...i just could not agree with her:) That's when I thought of writing about this in my blog.hehe

ZOOM IN-SEXY
When we talk about sexy-it is either sexy human or sexy designs of non-living subjects (i.e. car) Am talking solely about sexy in humans..more precisely ladies; o as they are the one repeatedly subjected to sexiness (though guys are not spared)
Not sure how the general population perceives; for me...sexiness is mainly projected by dressing...the more body parts u expose, the sexier u will appear. Exposing here can be literal or even by covering up half-heartedly(kain jarang, kain separa cukup, kain terbelah, putting on high heels to put the back bumper to limelight...etc.hehe). Well of course the way a person talks or interacts can be sexy too. But i am more concerned about dressing; which is definitely a deliberate act by a person who is mentally sound:)

WHY?
I just can't understand;
Why does women want to look sexy by exposing themselves? They are gorgeous, yet they still want to appear sexy. Some perceive themselves as not so beautiful & use that as an excuse to be sexy (as if sexiness enhances beauty).
My dear sisters, You can dress-up but NEED NOT TO BE SEXY. Put on the finest gorgeous dresses you can find but it does not need to be sexy!
Why are you exposing yourselves to strangers who will look at you as if they have never seen a woman before?
What pleasure do you get by being "peewhitted" by strangers. (though may even happen if you are decently dressed; but will be of xtra "peewhit" if they look at a sexy lady).
Why are you exposing yourself to extra danger by dressing up sexily & walking on our not-so-safe roads?
Why are you putting on a dress which can cause discomfort to you & "suffocate" you (i.e. tight blouses, skirts) You wear a skirt with high cut slit & end up balik2 trying to cover up.
Why do you wear high heels & pre-dispose yourselves to varicose veins?
Apahal duhai wanita?

EXPLOITATION OF WOMEN
Women have long been exploited & degraded. They were declined of their rights. If we look at era of Jahiliyyah in Middle-East...baby girls were buried alive; women are deemed to be merely reproductive machine. Islam brought the just equality women have been yearning for long. Man & women have their own responsibilities, place in society and equal rights to voice out opinion. Equality here is not as what the emancipation group are fighting for...equality means; men have their responsibilities...women have their own; thus equality is in accordance to these responsibilities. Women were given the pride which has long been taken away from them. they are not to be exploited but to be cared & protected. Their bodies are not to be exposed; but to be covered & protected

But let us look at our society now...many are voluntarily exposing themselves. Look at our ads, TV shows, our shopping complexes..huh..just to name a few...
Where is your pride my dear sisters?
If we look at any religion's teachings...I would boldly say, none are in favour of allowing sexy dressing...dare to challenge? so, get back to your respective religion's teachings & protect yourselves...the world is not getting any better, only more cruel.
REMEMBER please...sexiness has nothing to do with confidence. Confidence is within us...decent appearance strengthens it...sexy appearance does not come into confidence line:)

Katakanlah kepada wanita yang beriman: "Hendaklah mereka menahan pandangannya, dan kemaluannya (nafsu) dan janganlah mereka menampakkan perhiasannya, kecuali yang (biasa) nampak dari padanya. Empathy....?

I'm on call tomorrow...so happy..huhu (don't be worried..am still sane)
Just something to share here; which has been in my concern for so long..
Witnessing terminal illnesses, deaths, emotional response to a loss, denials ... have been part of me since I started my medical life...more so since being in Sandakan (medical lagi...huh) Well, sometimes I do get carried away if unable to save a life; which I hoped could be saved...but as we know..life & death is beyond our knowledge & control...Allah decides all & we must accept the fate (Faith in Qada' & Qadar). "Every living soul are subjected to death" No one is immortal expect Allah.

But I'm just too sad when many of us (people who are witnessing a near-death situation, trying hard to salvage the life...just lose our EMPATHY & forget that we are resuscitating a fellow human being who is in a brink of death (or already asystole). Laughing, giggling...are this the way we are supposed to behave in facing such situations? Worse still..sometimes the dying patient's family members are just beside the bed, only hidden by curtain. Where have we lost our EMPATHY? We tend to take as "OK,IT IS JUST ANOTHER MORTALITY"....as easy as that! Let it be a terminally ill patient, a frail elderly, a young man or even a homeless human...
Some of us are even happy if a patient is issued DNR.huh (happy the patient gonna die?) Issuing DNR is not easy...the responsibility is just too huge...we are answerable to what we do later...thus issuing this has to be under careful consideration & not with the intention...DNR jak la, malas mau resus!

Friends! a death is a death ... it is not "JUST ANOTHER MORTALITY". Every death involves emotions of the deceased or the dying patient's family. More importantly, we MUST manifest our EMPATHY. Am not saying all those who are resuscitating must be fully quiet & use sign languages; but be rationale...I reckon laughing & giggling as being disrespectful to the patient & family members.

Sympathy emphasizes sharing distressing feelings whereas empathy does not emphasize any particular type of feeling. The listener using empathy shares (experiences) whatever feelings the talker is expressing at the moment, regardless of whether the feelings are distressing (grief, for example) or pleasant (love, for example).
Sympathy may also involve agreeing with some aspects of the other person's feelings, beliefs, etc. whereas empathy emphasizes understanding all of them with no interest in either agreeing or disagreeing.

The person using empathy tunes into the entire inner world of the other person whereas the person using sympathy typically tunes into only those aspects with which he agrees. The listener using empathy usually responds more comprehensively to the talker as compared with the listener using sympathy.

My point is...we don't have to sympathize...in fact, DO NOT SYMPHATIZE...but do EMPATHIZE. It really makes you look professional & more humane!
As a Muhasabah for me & all those who are fated to be in such situations for their entire life. Hope we all work towards being a better human being...Insya Allah.

Do we really need these places to blossom?

I had a chat recently with a Visaya (of Buhol tribe) lady, who just underwent LSCS. It took place in Recovery area of my OT at 2am in the morning:)

I asked her how she ended up living in Sabah and she began her story of how she came here in 2000 and got married to a local few years later. Working in some office now.
She continued telling about the main ethnics in the Phillipines and she expressed her anger on her compatriots (but from different island,Zamboanga & Luzon). According to her, most of the Filipinos working in pubs & night spots in Sandakan are mainly from this Zamboanga island...but they claim that they are from Visaya, not Zamboanga...thus tarnishing the image of Visaya ladies (as many of them does work in "sex industry"-according to this lady. Well, we do knew about this extra-curricular job blossoming here,right?)

This lady I was talking to was adamant that most of these ladies are not Visayas,as many of her people earn a living by working in camps (sawit ba..) and as maids. In fact she first knew about this spoilt image of her people when she was "invited" by somebody to work in pub in Sandakan (when she was still in the Philippines) She declined the "invitation".

What really interested was when she said, "I did not believe when I first knew that Malaysia has pubs & night clubs; for the fact of being a Muslim country & only believed after seeing them myself in Sandakan" :) I was proud & embarrassed with what she said...

Proud with the impression she had on Malaysia & embarrassed when the impression collapsed after she came to Malaysia.

ARE HAVING LOTS OF PUBS & NIGHT CLUBS IS A SIGN OF A PROGRESSIVE NATION?
IS HEDONISM AN OPTION OF ENTERTAINMENT FOR US?
DOES ANY RELIGION ALLOW THIS WITH NOT A SLIGHT OBJECTION?

I am not producing any statistics, but enough to say all these places offer nothing but liquor & excessive entertainments which can lead to a cascade of unscrupulous events (need not to be mentioned here...) Many may argue, it is not wrong to go for a drink and some get together with friends...BUT does all go to these places with these "noble" intentions & how many goes there with these "noble" intentions but end up with some other wrong deeds...

Can anyone say that any single religion in this world encourages visits to these places? I'am very confident, every religion would deem it as HARAM or at least discourage visits to these places/taking liquors etc.

Are we that desperate to the extent that we don't have entertainment of our own style...and have to copycat enjoyment; the western-style? Look at our new year/merdeka eve celebrations (for instance)...does it reflect our tradition?

Are adverse effects of blossoming night clubs industry in Malaysia are still vague?
Dear friends...take foreign cultures which are beneficial to the country & reject whatever which may bring calamities to our nation.

After 20 days...

Our Induksi came to an end on the 28th of august...much to my sadness & despair. It was a total fun throughout the short but memorable course. We began with BTN, which was mostly packed with boring discussions & lectures (with exceptions to a very few) plus one-sided comments, baseless personal attacks & "great" attempts to "nurture" our minds & souls (though was almost futile towards me). However Induksi was hundred folds much better & beneficial.

It was held in our own sandakan nursing college, done 8-5 (though 4.30 is the latest we go home:), no unnecessary nite jobs & no wasteful malam mesra.

Positive notes : people's money saved, participants daily chores uninterupted, and with no doubt, the harmony & positive interaction was very well maintained and great friendship bond tied!

In the end: money saved (re-emphasized!), time saved, resources saved, "unhealthy business avoided", objective accomplished. Well done to JKNS.

Nevertheless, it is sad to hear that this may not be done anymore...so, maybe back to reverse of all the above regarding money, time & bla..bla..etc.

Truely Democratic

Ever wondered to what extent humans would go to get what they desire?UNLIMITED!

The political scenario in Perak at the moment is another classical example of BN-defined democracy:) Some of the features are:

1. People's voice is something that can be disregarded...of no value.
2. Money & wealth can be used by all means to achieve their political power.
3. Police, judiciary etc. are tools to achieve their political status & to belittle Rakyat.

Any conscious mind would be able to comprehend the misdeeds that the "new govt" has done to gain power in Perak. Our conscience would not cheat...but we do sometimes try to cheat our conscience:)

The story goes...2 idiotic,untrustyworth,probably sex-maniac PR ADUNs who are facing bribery charges + 1 nyonya of PR, suddenly wants to defect PR and become "BN-friendly" independent. Another low-class or better said, no-class ADUN jumped ship again only after less than 2 weeks being in a new ship!

So that gives BN the so-called majority to form govt. Was this mandate given by the Rakyat? Come on, put aside our political inclination & think of this matter as a neutral human being! IS THIS DEMOCRACY? This is TOTALLY a BETRAYAL to the Rakyat! What is the point of holding elections, than they jump parties "in the name of stability" but instead for the sake of MONEY?

This is rubbish, uncivilised, develish democracy!

Then comes our monarch...whom ascendents were "very intelligent" in selling our lands..now again making decision which is clearly AGAINST the Rakyat's interest.

These are what that would happen if we place any incapable, incompetent, untrustworthy person by the roadside at helm. If we select a leader/rep...find one who has the charisma, leads by example.

The end of the day...BIG DEFEAT TO DEMOCRACY IN MALAYSIA & my pity fellow countrymen.

The POLITICKING & CRAZE for power among politicians goes on & the Rakyat remains status quo. RAKYAT ...0 POLITICIANS ...1

I was sitting in peace and tranquility in my ward today, when my HOD asked me to join him for a meeting next week. Guess what...a district level meeting!

What surprised me was the reason for the meeting..."masalah pesakit pendatang tanpa izin(non-local)" and the meeting is kind of to find "solution" or to get some "resolutions" perhaps:)

The main agenda being hospitalization payments of these non-local patients, which were hardly collected and end up as "hutang hapus-kira". My concern is : what we...at Sandakan level can do to overcome this matter? Isn't a STATE-level issue? Isn't to be discussed by our "intelligent" leaders...particularly of Sabah?

Illegal immigrant influx in Sabah is a nationwide-known issue. But not all knows to what extent the trouble has gone to...To simplify matter, I would like to categorize them as follows:

1. We have newly-arrived illegals.
2. Those who have resided in Sabah for years, have brought up families in Sabah...with no valid documents. They are neither Malaysian citizen nor citizens of their homeland.
3. Illegal immigrants with "valid" MYKAD. Need not ask how they obtained it.

(P/S: remind me to add if there are any other categories;)

Malaysia (particularly Sabah) has become kind of free-for-all country. Last year I had patients from Bakungan Island (of the Philippines) coming into Sandakan with no restriction. Again early this year I got a patient with Typhoid from one of the small islands of the Philippines. Of course on humanitarian basis, we treat them.

But where are our authorities...so-called guardians of our borders? Ok they may say difficult to monitor all the possible entry point to Malaysia..."acceptable"...BUT how about those walking around in the centre of town with no pasports/documents? Another case which happened in my ward last year...a lady(non-local with no documents) admitted for para-suicide (allegedly took overdose syabu!). We've already reported to our "great" police on the day of admission. She has done double crime - being illegal & possesing+consuming syabu. But our "superb" police never came during her 2days stay in the ward & had the courage to sound my nurse for not informing them again before patient gets discharged! If only the police had spoken to me...I would have got the chance to screw them to earth!

My utmost sympathy is for those whom are with "no homeland". Last year I had 2 twelve-years old girls diagnosed as AML & CHD (uni-atrium) respectively. Not eligible for subsidized treatment in Malaysia, they are from poor family (one brought up by single mother; the other girl by siblings) AND they are not eligible neither to get treatment in their mother-land because no proper documents. Born in Sabah, bred in Sabah but they are not Malaysians & the Philippines won't accept them neither. Where can they go for treatment?

These are the trouble going on in Sabah...I've no idea about the statistics..but trust me this matter is really serious! We can't deny basic, life-saving medical treatment based on nationality their financial status. We can't say, "you pay as you arrive, only then we'll treat your MI,AGE etc".

Though I applaud the initiative taken by Jabatan Kesihatan office of Sandakan & HDOK to organize the meeting involving the Immigration & police depts as well, I STILL STRONGLY CONDEMN the government of the day for not walking the talk & for not executing convincing measures to tackle this matter. They should not be at helm if they are not keen to get to the root of it.

Consensus regarding immigrant patients not paying up their bills should come from the federal KKM level with discussion with state govt + hospital authorities. But this would be best dealt, if the government of the day put in REAL, TRUE effort to get to the bottom of this Illegal immigrant matter at least bit by bit.

Terkejutnya aku jumaat lepas pabila mendapat tahu induksi kami yg sepatutnya bulan depan ditunda & mungkin ke tahun depan! Alasan = pengumuman govt yg tiada lagi kursus yg akan dibuat di hotel2. Apa ke halnya masalah depa ni tak tau lah…
Nak tukar tempat, buat lah untuk kursus2 yang belum plan lg…ni yg da plan pun ditimbal-balik…so infirm, inconsistent & incompetent. Patutlah depa pun dok dalam keadaan kalut lani…
Tak pikiaq ka…kalo tunda thn dpn, kesian lah kami semua…lambatlah pengesahan dalam jawatan, lambatlah nak sambung study…sedangkan member yg pi mei aritu dah selesai.
Tak pikiaq ka…bukan senang nak atur pelepasan…dah elok2 atuq,mai pulak crita xjadi…apa nak jadi dgn depa ni,ntah la…
Lani…tunggu jelah bila depa nak buat…bising tara mana pun bukan ada guna…

Social responsibility...huh,sounds heavy

Dah dua hari cuti...sok keja,lusa on-call..aargghh! Life is pretty bored,yeah? But it always depends on how we perceive it. Sometimes people have been in their own comfort zone for just too long,till they don't realize suffering that are happening around them.

There are lots of issues affecting mankind out there (within our nation & outside) but, what are we doing on our part to ease those issues (at least a bit...) Something I need to ponder deeply...

WHAT IS MY CONTRIBUTION TO MY SOCIETY?
